BRIDGEPORT – A new violent crime reduction task force in Bridgeport was tipped off that heroin and prescription pills were being dealt out of this Hallet Street home, but law enforcement officials were shocked by what they found upon entry.

“The stench emanating from the basement area was overwhelming,” said Bridgeport Police Capt. Armando Perez.

In the basement of suspect Felix Delgado’s home, there were items that are signatures of Santeria, a religion prominent in Caribbean countries.

Investigators found “at least two skulls and I believe a couple of thigh bones,” said Perez .

While Perez confirms they did find drugs, Delgado, who says he’s a high priest in the religion, was in court today because Massachusetts police have an arrest warrant out for him in connection with a robbery of remains from a Worcester mausoleum, to which there is another Connecticut connection.

“There were two arrests in Hartford, where they discovered two full skeletons, I believe belonging to that cemetery, and to that mausoleum,” said Perez.

“Last month, Amador Medina, 32, of Hartford, was arrested in the same Massachusetts grave robbing incident. A source tells Fox 61 it was Medina who turned in Delgado.

Perez wouldn’t confirm this, but did say Delgado practices the dark side of Santeria, describing it as “similar to voodoo, but worse.”

Perez, a native of Cuba, remembers childhood visits to family in the countryside, where Santeria was practiced. He recalls that every night the doors to the home were locked by 8 p.m. because “there were people that would go around the country and try to steal children, you know, for human sacrifice.”

Delgado’s public defender says he will not contest an extradition to Massachusetts, which will happen no later than early March.
