MADISON–One local fourth-grader is getting the chance to show off his creativity to the world.
Micah Linton-Smith, who attends the Island Avenue School in Madison, was one of 53 finalists–one from each state, plus D.C., Puerto Rico and Guam–to make it to the finals for Google’s Doodle4Google competition.
In this year’s competition, entrants were asked to draw a Google Doodle that represented the theme “what makes me me.”
Micah’s entry, for the grades 4 and 5 category, was titled “Tech Makes Me Me.”
“Technology makes me me because it makes me feel like I can do anything. You can animate, play games, learn new things, and create new things. Technology is a big part of my life because my dad works with tech and I’ve always thought what he does was really cool,” Micah explained about why he chose the topic.
You can vote for his entry here. Voting ends February 22, at which point the finalists from each of the five grade groups will go to the judges for a final decision, which will be announced March 28.
The grand-prize winner will get a $30,000 college scholarship, plus a $50,000 Google for Education grant for his or her school. The student will also receive a trip to Google’s California headquarters, a Chromebook, an Android tablet and a t-shirt with his or her Doodle on it.

All finalists will have their Doodles featured in a gallery on Google’s website, and the winner’s will appear on the homepage in the United States.
