Hartford’s Clark School to be torn down

HARTFORD – School Superintendent Dr. Beth Narvaez told a group of parents Thursday that the Clark School building will be torn down.

The school had elevated levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB).The administration had originally hoped to be able to reopen the school.

Clark Elementary closed December 2014 after a sprinkler installation revealed the presence of PCBs, a known carcinogen that was banned in 1979.

According to Eagle Environmental, a contractor tasked with finding the source of PCBs, Clark School had elevated levels of PCBs in several areas of the school.
