AVON — Classes at a boys’ boarding school have been cancelled after a norovirus outbreak left about 60 students sick.
Avon Old Farms School, in Avon cancelled classes scheduled for Saturday through Monday. Some sporting events were also cancelled.
A school official says about 15 percent of the school’s 400 students exhibited symptoms of the virus.
Students are housed on campus when school is in session. Families were given the option of having students travel home for the weekend or remain on campus to be cared for by health professionals.
Healthy students are expected back on campus Monday evening.
Impacted students present symptomms of nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. This virus can last from a single day to several days.
There is little that can be done to alleviate the symptoms once the virus has presented – it simply needs to run its course.
