NAUGATUCK — Two people were hospitalized after a large fire broke out in a condominium complex Saturday.

Naugatuck Fire companies responded to the Meadowlands Estates on 39 Horton Hill Road just before 6:30 a.m. after learning smoke was billowing from the basement of one of the buildings.

Crews arrived to find all three floors in the affected section of the complex fully involved.

As flames ripped through the structure, it eventually became unstable and caused the roof to collapse. This led to setbacks for the firefighters, who had to attend to reignited areas after previously knocking them down.

Two people were hospitalized as a result of non-life threatening injuries they received in the blaze. One victim suffered smoke-inhalation symptoms, while another sustained a laceration.

Power was cut early to several units at the complex throughout the morning. The city Fire Marshal is conducting the investigation.

The American Red Cross is helping six families ,13 adults and three children, after the fire.
