The defense and prosecution were scheduled to meet with a Milford judge Tuesday in hopes of striking a plea deal.
Christopher Plaskon is charged with murdering 16-year-old Maren Sanchez in a hallway at Jonathan Law High School in Milford in April 2014, hours before the junior prom. Police have said they were looking into whether the attack was related to Sanchez’s refusal to be Plaskon’s prom date.
Plaskon’s mental health at the time of the crime is among the items being weighed.
As part of the plea discussions, Plaskon’s lawyer have said all options are on the table, including the possibility of a reduced charge of manslaughter, which carries a maximum prison term of 20 years, as opposed to the 25 to 60 years he faces now with the murder charge.
