More than 24 hours later, Connecticut power customers were still in the dark Friday, but help is on the way. Crews are coming to the state to help with the outages following Wednesday night’s storms.
Eversource secured additional crews from its locations in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, as well as contractor crews from New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Canada, to help restore power to customers.
At its peak 90 thousand Connecticut customers lost power and Friday morning, that number is way down at about 8,000 but there’s still a lot of work to do.
Governor Dan Malloy declared a partial state of emergency allowing line crews from across New England and crews from Canada to come help. Sixty five line workers and support personnel from New Hampshire will gather in Killingly and be dispatched.
The wind was a major factor in the damage. Seventy miles per hour winds in some areas knocked down trees, power lines, electricity poles, and broke equipment.
Eversource said seeing a storm of that power with those characteristics was unusual for February and seemed more like a summer storm.
The company said it's hoping for power to be restored by Friday night.
