HARTFORD -- Little Harper Lynn entered the world Monday morning at 2:34 a.m. but she won't be able to celebrate her special day on this day for another four years.
Harper is a leap year baby, born on February 29 at Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London. Her chances of being born today were 1 in 1,461, according to the Honor Society of Leap Year Babies.
She's not alone. As of 9:30 a.m., three babies had been born at St. Francis Hospital, and at Hartford Hospital Ellie J. Distin, who was born at 6:52 a.m. weighing 7 pounds 5 ounces. Throughout the day an additional eight were born at Hartford Hospital, though the day's not over yet!
At UConn John Dempsey Hospital, Shivangi Modi of Unionville, gave birth to her son Yuvraj, which means "Prince" on Monday morning at 6 a.m. He weighed 6 pounds 4 ounces, and was eight days early.
His parents were excited about their new son's weird birthday.
"He's always going to remain young!" his father, Nish Modi, joked with FOX 61, referring to his birthday only occurring once every four years.
One of the St. Francis babies, Mason Bilodeau, also was excited for the "special birthday," as she called it.
But the big question for leap baby families is: will you celebrate on February 28 or March 1?
The Modis say they'll have a huge celebration every four years, but they haven't decided which day they'll choose for the other three years.
However, Kelley Bilodeau says they've decided. "We decided February 28, that we'll celebrate,” said Kelley.
To make up for not being able to celebrate on their actual birthday, many places are offering special deals for those born on February 29.
