HARTFORD -- Hartford police are investigating what they believe is a homicide after detectives discovered a body near the water behind an apartment building at 7 Woodland Street on Hartford Wednesday afternoon.

Police are looking into whether the body is that of a missing woman from New Britain. Family members have not seen nor heard from the woman for several weeks.

Tuesday evening, police arrested Ronnie Gineyard, 37, on drug charges after receiving a tip that someone was selling PCP from Gineyard's apartment, located at 7 Woodland Street. Around 8:50 p.m., Hartford and New Britain police executed a search warrant there and say they found numerous bags of packaged PCP, empty bottles that once contained liquid PCP and cash. Gineyard was taken into custody and charged with possession of hallucinogenics and possession with intent to sell hallucinogenics.

Police believe Gineyard may be connected to the missing persons case because they heard the two had contact with each other the day before the woman vanished. Investigators wouldn't say what led them to search the riverbank behind Gineyard's apartment on Wednesday, but when they did, investigators found a body. Detectives are waiting for the medical examiner to confirm the identity of the deceased.

Gineyard was arraigned on Wednesday morning on the drug charges. Police expect charges related to the missing person and/or death investigation will be added soon. Gineyard is next set to appear in court for the drug charges on March 15.
