BRANFORD — Police arrested a New Haven man on drug charges after mechanics working on a car discovered a cache of illegal narcotics.

Police arrested Kevlon Hutchings, 33, of New Haven, and charged him with possession of a controlled substance and possession within 1500 feet from a school.

Authorities said mechanics at Brandfon Honda were working on Hutchings’ car while he waited at the dealership. When the mechanics put the car on the lift, the box holding the drugs beneath the car broke and the drugs fell out.

Police found about15 grams of crack cocaine, 1 capsule of MDMA, drug packaging material, and $1776 in cash.

Hutchings  was released on $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on March 15.
