NEW BRITAIN – Over 30 residents have been displaced after a massive fire tore through a neighborhood Saturday morning.

Firefighters were alerted to a rapidly-growing blaze that ignited on Broad Street at approximately 3:30 a.m.

Despite combined efforts of multiple agencies on scene, the fire devastated a pair of multi-family dwellings and a business called The Farm. A fourth building had minor heat damage, and multiple cars were also damaged.

The American Red Cross is offering shelter to 34 victims who lost their homes. Volunteers are providing emergency care to residents with immediate medical needs, as well as distributing resources like food, clothing and hygiene products to others.

Firefighters are working to determine what caused the fire to ignite, and whether or not it is suspicious in nature.

No people were injured, but a dog, six birds and two turtles died in the blaze.
