NEW HAVEN — A Greenwich woman who admitted to her role in the sex trafficking of minors in Connecticut is headed to prison.

Sheena Dume, 23, was sentenced in New Haven yesterday to six years in prison, followed by 10 years of supervised release. Dume pleaded guilty on February 18, 2015 to five counts of sex trafficking of a minor and one count of conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of a minor.

Authorities say Dume helped recruit at least five victims into prostitution for co-defendant Wellington Brown, who used expensive cars, jewelry and cash to lure the young victims. Brown also posed the venture as a modeling career to get the girls to come, but instead used the photos he took of them to advertise prostitution services on backpage.com.

The victims gave tens of thousands of dollars in earnings from the prostitution to 26-year-old Brown, and received little money themselves. Brown was sentenced last month to more than 10 years in prison for the same six crimes.

Dume helped cover the costs of renting hotel rooms for the victims to engage in prostitution at hotels in Stratford and Milford. She also helped fund transportation, condoms and food for the victims, as well as marijuana.

Brown and Dume were arrested on July 30, 2014 in Maryland.
