HARTFORD -- Rapper 50 Cent’s recent bankruptcy claim was called into question at a hearing in U.S. Bankruptcy Court on Wednesday. This, after several social media pics of him surrounded by piles of cash were posted.

50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson III, appeared in a Hartford federal courtroom but said nothing. His attorneys told the judge the cash in the photos was fakeand he isn't hiding any assets. They said that the pictures were all part of his brand.

The rapper’s assets are under review after he filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last year. 50 Cent has said that that he isn’t hiding any assets. The U.S. trustee attorney in court made a motion for a neutral investigator to be assigned to the case to determine if 50 Cent is telling the truth.

Jackson's attorney argued that wasn't necessary and that an investigation would cost time and money that the rapper doesn't have.

The celebrity escaped media questions by leaving out of a side door of the courthouse. A large crowd of fans ran after him, but most people did not catch a glimpse.

50 Cent filed for bankruptcy last year after a New York City jury ordered him to pay $7 million a woman who said he posted her sex tape online.

Last week, rumors swirled that the rappers 50,000 square foot Farmington mansion could be transformed into an assisted living facility. The mansion has been on the market since 2007, but his attorney confirmed to FOX 61 that no contract for sale has been executed.
