HOLLYWOOD--He may still be enjoying his "Beautiful Life," but Nick Fradiani is ready to "Get You Home."
The reigning "American Idol" champ--and Guilford, Connecticut native--performed his second single on the show that made him famous Thursday night.
Nick won season 14 of the show last year, and this is his second time performing on the farewell 15th season of the singing competition.
Eight contestants remained to perform on Thursday night before two were to be kicked off. La'Porsha Renae and Trent Harmon kicked off the night with a duet of "See You Again" by Charlie Puth; they were followed by Sonika Vaid and Avalon Young who sang "Rise Up" by Andra Day; next up was Dalton Rapattoni and Mackenzi Bourg performed "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys; and last but not least were Lee Jean and Tristan McIntosh, who belted out Aerosmith's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing."
So far, those who are safe include La'Porsha, who sang Beatles' "Come Together"; Mackenzie Bourg, who sang "You Are So Beautiful" by Joe Cocker; Trent Harmon, who sang "Stand By Me" by Ben E. King; Tristan McIntosh, who sang Martina McBride's "A Broken Wing"; and Dalton Rapattoni, who sang another Beatles song, "Elanor Rigby."
That left Sonika Vaid, Avalon Young and Lee Jean in the bottom three. Avalon tried to charm the judges with Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)," while Lee tried to get to the next round with "Let It Be" by the Beatles, and Sonika looked to be saved with her rendition of "I Have Nothing" by Whitney Houston.
In the end, Sonika got the save and will move on to the top 6, which you can watch next Thursday on FOX 61 at 8 p.m.
Earlier in the night Nick held a Q&A on Twitter, answering questions like who his favorite superhero is (Batman), which Disney movies he likes best ("Lion King" and "Aladdin"), and who his favorite "Idol" judge is ("JLo will always be #1").
He also revealed that he is filming the music video for "Get You Home" in Chicago on March 29, so it should be out "very soon."
And it wasn't just about Nick. He was asked some questions about this season of the show. So far, his favorite performance of the season has been La'Porsha Renae's "Diamonds" by Rihanna, and he says what he'll miss most about "Idol" when it's over is how it "changed pop culture and changed my life. I'll miss everything about it." However, he would not answer who he thinks will win this season, though that doesn't sound like it's a permanent refusal:
He also said he'd be a teacher and coaching high school basketball if music wasn't a career option, which isn't surprising considering he was a substitute teacher in North and East Haven before auditioning for "Idol."
