BRISTOL — Two Bristol police detectives have been honored for their work on the Aaron Hernadnez case. Garrie Dorman and Peter Dauphinais were jointly awarded Monday Police Officer of the Year for the Bristol Police Department for their combined work in the Hernandez investigation.
On June 17, 2013, Odin Lloyd was murdered in an industrial park in North Attleboro, Massachusetts. The North Attleboro Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police began the investigation that would soon gather national attention when Hernandez, a Bristol native and then-NFL star, was identified as a suspect.
When the Bristol Police Department was brought in, Dauphinais and Dorman took the lead for the department and helped identify two suspects who were later arrested and charged in connection with the murder.
Over the next 22 months Dorman and Dauphinais dedicated themselves to this investigation, said Officer Lt. Richard Guerrera. They spent many hours conducting interviews and surveillance, as well as executing multiple search warrants, and coordinated efforts between various law enforcement agencies in Connecticut with those in Massachusetts, according to Lt. Guerrera.
“Most impressive though, was their combined knowledge of the various Bristol residents involved in this case and the relationships between them,” Lt. Guerrera said. “They did this with great personal sacrifice.”
Dorman and Dauphinais were honored during a ceremony held at Nuchie’s Restaurant in Forestville on Monday. Their families, city officials, and fellow officers attended the event.
