In anticipation of the season premiere, some VIPs from "Empire" stopped by "American Idol" for the top 5 reveal.

"Empire" stars Jussie Smollett and Bryshere "Yazz" Gray appeared on the big stage Thursday night to debut the song "Never Let It Die," which can be heard in the background of the trailer for the new season.

They had some back-up help from the top six "Idol" contestants: Trent Harmon, L'Porsha Renae, McKenzie Bourg, Tristan McIntosh, Dalton Rapattoni and Sonika Vaid.

Judge Jennifer Lopez seemed to enjoy the performance:

The duet are brothers on the hit Fox show "Empire," which will air its season premiere on March 30 at 9 p.m. on FOX 61.

Here's a description of "Death Will Have His Day," the first episode of season 2:

After losing the company he built, Lucious (Terrence Howard) announces he will stop at nothing to regain his power, but Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) has her own way of handling things. Meanwhile, Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday), Andre (Trai Byers) and the rest of the Lyon family come to terms with a life-changing tragedy that changes their lives as they know it.

As for "Idol," Tristan McIntosh is the one going home. Tune in to FOX 61 next Thursday at 8 p.m. to see the top 5 perform.
