MYSTIC --  A 10-month-old female harbor seal named Pumpkin is back in the open ocean after six months of specialized care from Mystic Aquarium's Animal Rescue Team. Pumpkin was released Thursday morning at Blue Shutters Beach in Charlestown, RI.

Pumpkin was rescued from Ipswich, Mass. on September 15, 2015 weighing only 33 lbs. She also had several facial wounds.

Six months later, she weighs more than 72 lbs. Pumpkin’s return to the ocean was celebrated with beautiful weather and the cheerful spirit of St. Patrick’s Day.

Now, Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue team is caring for four different species of seals–including harbor, gray, harp and hooded seals- along with an endangered Kemp’s ridley sea turtle.

Best of luck, Pumpkin!
