HARTFORD–It’s not just the state that’s feeling the heat when it comes to the pocketbook.
On Friday, mayors from some of Connecticut’s biggest cities banded together and visited the Capitol to emphasize the need for state aid for municipalities.
New Haven’s Toni Harp, Bridgeport’s Joe Ganim and Waterbury’s Neal O’Leary lobbied lawmakers together in hopes that town aid wouldn’t be slashed as the Legislature seeks to cut $220 million to balance the budget.
Mayor Harp said the cities have been responsible with how the dollars are spent, but that town budgets are increasing, as is the state’s.
Lawmakers are expected to meet Monday to finalize budget cuts.
