HARTFORD — A Hartford man has pleaded guilty to charges he fatally stabbed his ex-girlfriend inside her apartment in 2014.
The Hartford Courant reports 42-year-old Alex Baez-Franqui entered the plea to murder last week in the death of 45-year-old Luz Nieves. He’s expected to serve 32 years in prison under a plea agreement.
Officers were dispatched to Nieves’ apartment in November 2014 for a well-being check. Police found her dead with multiple stab wounds.
Police say the apartment had been arranged to look like there had been a burglary. They say Baez-Franqui told officers conflicting stories about his whereabouts and contact with Nieves.
Police say Baez-Franqui later confessed to city detectives that he killed Nieves after he had been smoking crack.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 13.
