NEW HAVEN — New Haven police said an early morning fight sent one man to Yale–New Haven Hospital with two  cuts to his head from a machete.

Police found out about the fight when they went to the hospital at about 3 a.m. Friday and found the injured man, Eric Lewis, 33, of  New Haven, who had been driven there by an acquaintance, Christina Lucas, 25, of New Haven.

Lewis told police he’d been in a fight involving several people at 54 Eastern Street. During the fight, one person used pepper spray and another brandished a machete. Lewis said he was cut when the man with the machete swung it at his head.

Officers then went to the home and saw blood in the front yard, with a trail leading inside. Officers knocked at the door and nobody answered, but three people were inside, so they kicked-in the back door and arrested Henry Bell, 30, Belinda Edwards, 23, and Omar Ryan, 50, all from New Haven.

Ryan was arrested and charged with wielding the machete.

Lewis and Lucas were also arrested at the hospital and charged with breach of peace.

Police said the fight was the result of a dispute between the two women.

Lewis was treated and released.
