SOUTHINGTON — Police in Southington are warning people to be on the lookout after a deadly dog attack. Just after noon on Monday, Edward Hayes let his Yorkshire terrier out in the yard of their home on Deer Run.

Hayes told police a large black dog with tan streaks ran into the yard and attacked his terrier. He ran over to separate the dogs and the big dog ran off, police said in a statement. The big dog, possibly a lab/boxer type weighing over 100 pounds, ran off.

Hayes dog was killed as a result of the attack. He said he did not recognize the dog from the neighborhood or area.

The Animal Control Officer checked the area in an attempt to locate the loose dog, said police.  Several checks were made Monday and Tuesday in an effort to identify the dog.  As of this time the dog and its owners have not been identified.

If anyone has information they can call the dog pound at 860-628-8053.
