WEST HARTFORD-- A five-hour standoff in New Britain Avenue ended with the arrest of one adult and two juveniles Wednesday night.

Police were called to a house  near the intersection of New Britain Avenue and West Gate Street just before 6 p.m. after a dispute in the front yard.

Witnesses nearby said that it involved a gun and that the suspect was seen with a handgun.

When police arrived, the suspects ran back into the house. One of the suspects jumped from a window of the residence and attempted to escape the area. Malachi Ford, 18 of West Hartford, was arrested and taken into custody. He was charged with breach of peace, interfering with an officer and risk or injury.

Ford appeared in court Thursday, but his case was continued until April 19, when he is expected to enter a plea. He is free on a promise to appear in court.

Two people remained inside the house when the standoff began. Police tried to make contact with people inside the house but were not able to for several hours.

Just before 11p.m., the SWAT team approached the house  with guns drawn, trying to talk with residents inside. Two juvenile suspects were seen inside. Police were able to make contact with them both. The two suspects came out and were taken into custody. They were issued a summonses for breach of peace, interfering, brandishing a facsimile firearm. Police released the two suspects to their parents.

It's unclear if the juvenile suspects are residents of the home.

Police blocked off New Britain Avenue and set up a perimeter for five hours.  SWAT team members and officers with tactical gear and bullet-proof vests in the area  were hiding around the house with guns.
