GROTON – Police arrested a Rhode Island man for allegedly stealing an expensive bottle of wine from a restaurant in Mystic in October.

On Friday, a Scott DeLuca, 24, of Pawtucket, RI, appeared in Kent County District Court, in Warwick, Rhode Island, where he waived extradition.

Groton police then arrested took Scott DeLuca and took him back to Groton to be formally charged with third-degree larceny.

In October, police began investigating after an expensive bottle of wine was stolen from the Octagon Restaurant, located within the Mystic Marriott.

Police said the DeLuca stole a bottle of 1990 Chateau Petrus wine, valued at $4,800, from a storage area.

The investigation revealed similar incidents in New York and New Jersey, as well as Connecticut.

On October 22, 2015, the Groton police obtained an arrest warrant for DeLuca.

On Thursday, January 7, Deluca was taken into custody in Rhode Island on charges that included being a fugitive from Connecticut.

DeLuca was being held on a $10,000 bail and faces other warrants in the state.

The Groton Police worked with other law enforcement agencies throughout the Northeast, including New York and New Jersey, on the investigation.

Police said solcial media also played a role in identifying DeLuca.
