BLOOMFIELD — Police say a motorist was critically injured after colliding with a Bloomfield police car that was responding to an emergency call.

The officer responded to a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

Police say the officer was driving east on Park Avenue with the cruiser’s lights and sirens activated when the officer collided with a Lexus ES 300 heading southbound on School Street. Both vehicles were significantly damaged.

Officer Alecia Aldrich was treated at Saint Francis Hospital and released. The driver, Dwayne McLish, 25, of Bloomfield remains hospitalized at Saint Francis in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating.
