WALLINGFORD -- Mixed, hand-cut, filled and topped: Neil's Donuts in Wallingford serves up hundreds of sweet treats a day. That's why FOX 61's Sean Pragano stopped there in this edition of Foodie Friday.

"Everything is done by hand, that's what makes it special," said owner Neil Bukowski.

The salesman-turned-baker is going on his 15th year of slinging sweetness while putting his own touch on each donut.

"We slice the donut, it's a unique way of doing it. It's labor intensive but it allows us to fill the donuts with plenty of flavor and put on ample toppings. That's what this place is all about, there's a lot of care put into it."

That care doesn't go unnoticed. Customers who flock to the (no longer) hidden Wallingford gem can taste it.

"It's fresh, it's sweet, it's just perfect," said Tammy Smith of Meriden.

"I don't think it's possible to have a bad donut here," Chrissy Sarenas agrees.

Bill Steinhauser is sold on the goods at Neil's, he's been coming everyday for the last eight years.

"Yeah, everyday, except one day I broke my ankle and I didn't come," said Steinhauser. "Best donuts in town."

There are more than 40 varieties at Neil's, including cream-filled and chocolate with sprinkles.  The signature donut is the classic glazed that just drips with flavor.

"No one comes in upset and no one leaves upset," said Jenn Southland, who works the counter at Neil's. "Everyone comes in here happy."
