SHELTON — Police arrested a man who they said broke into a home and dragged a woman outside and assaulted her.
Shortly after 11 a.m. Wednesday, police were called to a home on Howe Avenue for a 23-year-old woman who had been assaulted. She told police she had been at a home with a friend when a man wearing a bandanna broke into the house and dragged her into the backyard. The suspect hit her several times and slammed her head into the ground.
She was taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
Shelton police and State Police searched the area and found Jesse Smith, 29, who was hiding in the Housatonic River. Smith was charged with home invasion, assault and disorderly conduct.
Smith was being held on a $50,000 bond and will be arraigned in court on Thursday.
