April is National Parkinson's Disease Awareness Month. In this Healthier Connections report, brought to you by Hartford HealthCare, FOX 61's Sarah Cody takes us to a new center featuring comprehensive care for those suffering from movement disorders.
For years, Gunilla Norris of Mystic cared for her partner Stan Wertheimer, who was a math professor, as he suffered from Parkinson's disease. Werthiemer passed away in early March.
Norris is now a published author and wrote a poem describing the day to day life of a caregiver.
Dr. Toni de Marcaida was Wertheimer's doctor. Now, she's at the helm of a new endeavor in Vernon. It's the Movement Disorders Center with Hartford HealthCare, which hopes to provide comprehensive, integrated care that is totally patient centered.
A variety of classes, including dancing, yoga, and nutrition, will benefit a patient's lifestyle and state of mind. The caregiver will also get support.
