WEST HARTFORD – Environmental Conservation Police tranquilized a black bear in West Hartford Sunday afternoon and are relocating it to a suitably forested area.

The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection got a call at around 3:15 p.m. from a resident reporting a bear at 20 Lilley Road in West Hartford.

The bear was in a tree at that address but by the time the police arrived it had come down and was located at 19 Vanderbilt Road.

The male bear was thought to weigh about 250 pounds.

The area where it was captured in West Hartford is a very busy and congested area.

DEEP warns residents that with the coming of spring, bears will be on the prowl and to take steps to avoid contact with them.
