NEWINGTON -- Around 6:20 p.m., officers from the New Britain Police Department tried to stop a car on East Street, but it refused to stop, starting a police chase.

The pursuit continued into Newington, and ended near the intersection of Main Street and East Robbins Avenue after the suspect got into a crash.

While police did not confirm who the suspect crashed into, FOX 61's Jeevan Vittal on the scene saw a New Britain police car with heavy damage.

"We were just hanging out enjoying ourselves, no big deal and that car came screaming around that way, car came down that way, the cruiser hit him and I don't think they had it in park, and that car kinda cruised through the driveway and hit the van and the cruiser went that way," said Michael Defuril, a man who lives in the area.
