HARTFORD–A female firefighter who works for the Hartford Fire Department has been arrested.

On February 4, the Department of Children and Families called the Hartford Police Department responded to the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for reports of the assault of a minor. The allegations were against the child’s mother.

The Hartford Police Special Investigative Division looked into the matter and spoke with DCF and CCMC. It was determined that Aarvah Quinonez, 34, of Hartford, had assaulted her child multiple times between 2015 and 2016 with a belt and by choking the child, as well as other methods of abuse.

Quinonez was arrested on Tuesday and is charged with assault in the second degree, strangulation in the third degree and risk of injury to a minor. She was arraigned Wednesday and is still being held on $100,000 bond. She will next appear in court May 25.

According to the Hartford Fire Department, Quinonez has been a firefighter with the department since June 27, 2011. She is now on unpaid leave pending the results of the investigation.
