EAST HARTFORD — Currently, the unemployment rates for Connecticut veterans is 5.5%, and nationally, the rate is 5.8%. In order to help vets find jobs, a job fair will be held next Wednesday.

The Heroes for Hire job and career fair is 11 a.m. to 3  p.m. April 27  in the Rentschler Field ballroom, 615 Silver Lane, East Hartford. This is the 12th year of this job fair and it is the largest of its type in New England.

Jim Lauber and Dan Laffin, Veterans Employment Representatives with the Labor Department, joined FOX 61 Good Day Connecticut to talk about the event.

Approximately 100 employers and services providers will be at the job fair. Employers range from entry level to management, and from law enforcement to accounting. Service providers will have information on schools, apprenticeship programs, and health services.

The job fair is geared toward veterans and their families. In addition to employment needs, veterans and their families may be seeking assistance on navigating obstacles they may face in making the transition back to civilian life.
