Suspect in stolen car rams cruiser in Hartford, later escapes custody and recaptured

HARTFORD — Police arrested a man after they say he rammed a car stolen in Greenwich into a state police cruiser when confronted in Hartford. That man later escaped police custody and has been recaptured.

Kevin Feliciano, 22, of Hartford was arrested early Thursday.

At about 11 p.m. Wednesday, State police were notified that a 2003 Honda Civic, stolen from Greenwich, was tracked to I-84 westbound in Hartford near exit 47 by the car owner’s mobile phone, which was in the vehicle.

Police located and attempted to stop the car on the Sigourney Street exit from I-84 westbound. According to police, the driver rammed a state police cruiser and a trooper fired at the suspect but did not hit him.

The car then crashed at the intersection of Park Terrace and Park Street and police arrested Feliciano.  Police said Feliciano later escaped custody while being transported to court Thursday morning.  He was recaptured shortly before 9 a.m.

Two troopers were transported to the hospital for the evaluation of minor injuries, and released.

Feliciano was charged for the police pursuit with several crimes, including first-degree criminal mischief, first-degree larceny, reckless endangerment in the first degree, assault in the second degree, assault of a public safety person, reckless driving, engaging police in pursuit and driving without a license, among other charges. Bond for those crimes was set at $250,000.

Charges related to his custody escape and recapturement have not yet been released.
