COVENTRY–Police spent about 2 1/2 hours in front of a home in Coventry on Tuesday evening after reports of a barricaded subject.

According to police, around 2:50 p.m. it was reported that a woman had pointed a rifle at a man and then barricaded herself in a a home on Lake Street.

The Capital Region Emergency Services Team was called to the scene and coaxed the woman, identified as Debra Bernier, 57, out of the house. The weapon was found and secured, and she was taken into custody.

Bernier was charged with assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment in the second degree, threatening in the second degree, breach of peace in the second degree and interfering with police. She was held on a $10,000 bond and will appear in court Wednesday.

Lake Street was closed between Main and Bissel streets, and High Street was closed between Lake Street and Stonebridge Road. The roads have reopened.

The G.H. Robertson School was on lockdown for a short time, but students were dismissed quickly.
