Westport first responders reunite with baby girl they delivered at family’s home

WESTPORT–A mother and father are thankful for the incredible response they received from Westport’s finest.

On Wednesday morning around 8:45 a.m., Westport Police, Westport Fire and Westport EMS responded to a home for reports that a woman was in labor. When the units arrived they found Kate Procaccini in an upstairs bedroom and determined she wouldn’t be able to wait to get to a hospital.

The first responders delivered the baby just minutes later, and then the mom and baby were taken to Norwalk Hospital. Both are healthy.

The first responders were able to meet the new child when they reunited with the family at the hospital on Thursday.

Mila was visited by paramedics, officers and firefighters, who brought the little girl a gift: a onesie with the emblems of all three departments.

“This is a once in a career opportunity for our guys,” said Shift Commander Lt. Eric Woods. “I could not be happier for them, but even more excited for the family.”

John Procaccini, now a father of two, said, “I just wanted to thank you all for everything you did. This is the stuff that goes above and beyond typical duties. We are beyond grateful.”
