MILFORD – The New Haven line between New Haven and Bridgeport was delayed after a person was hit by a train and killed near the Milford train station, in the area of Gulf Street and Buckingham Avenue.

Amtrak said the accident occurred around 2 p.m. when Amtrak Train 2158, the Acela Express service operating from Washington to Boston, reported striking an adult trespasser on the tracks in the Milford area. Service was suspended for nearly two hours and resumed again at around 4 p.m.

Amtrak said there were approximately 297 passengers on board the train at the time but no injuries were reported to any passengers or crew.

Amtrak said trains were held clear of the area while the investigation was ongoing and Amtrak worked with Metro-North railroad, who dispatches that section of the Northeast Corridor, to resume service as quickly and safely as possible. At one point, buses were being called in to ferry passengers.

Milford Police were also on the scene assisting Metro-North and Amtrak authorities with their investigation.

There were no delays between Stamford and Grand Central Terminal.

A train struck and killed a person on the tracks earlier Friday morning just before 8:30 a.m. It was Acela Express Amtrak train #2190 heading from New York to Boston.

That train struck the person in Guilford near the Branford line. There were 119 passengers on board at the time, none of whom were injured.
