VERNON — A Vernon man is facing charges after police say he fired shots into a bathroom door, impatient the occupant was taking too long.

Around 2:53 a.m., Vernon Police responded to Portico 1 Villa Apartments, apartment #80 for reports of someone who shot a gun inside the apartment.

Police found that Shawn Cummins, age 22, who was highly intoxicated at the time, went over his neighbors apartment around 2:00 a.m. to hang out. While there, Cummins became upset over the fact someone wouldn’t get out of the bathroom.

Cummins then took his 9mm handgun out and fired one shot into the closed bathroom door, barely missing the person inside. The occupants of the apartment then yelled at him to leave.

While standing outside of the apartment, Cummins then fired another shot into the outside wall of the complex.

The gun was registered to Cummins but was seized when police arrived, as well as a .45 caliber handgun and a 12 gauge shotgun from inside his apartment.

Cummins is facing numerous charges including unlawful discharge of a firearm, illegally carrying a firearm while intoxicated, and first degree reckless endangerment.

He was initially held on a $20,000 cash bond, but at his arraignment on Monday the judge released him on a promise to appear at his next court date.
