HOLLYWOOD – Emmy-award winner and Connecticut native Seth MacFarlane will create, producer, and star in a new hour-long live-action comedic drama for FOX targeted for the 2017-18 season. FOX ordered 13 episodes of the new series.

“I’ve wanted to do something like this show ever since I was a kid, and the timing finally feels right,” said MacFarlane in a statement.

The comedic drama is set 300 years in the future. It follows the adventures of the Orville, a not-so-top-of-the-line exploratory ship in Earth’s interstellar Fleet. Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before.

Seth MacFarlane is familiar to FOX audiences as the creator, executive producer and voice actor on the long-running and Emmy Award-winning animated comedy series Family Guy, currently in its 13th season. That series has been renewed through the 2016-2017 television season.
