HARTFORD - Stan discusses fairness for college students who are undocumented immigrants with his guests Camila Bortolleto, policy coordinator for Connecticut Students for a Dream and Angelica Idrovo, a student who is also an undocumented resident. They are advocating for the Afford to Dream Bill, a law that would allow college students who are undocumented residents to tap financial aid resources.
Last year, Governor Dannel P. Malloy said he would give them $150,000 in financial aid for 2016, and double that amount in 2017.
"I want to thank the governor for his leadership. I think it's a path in the right direction,” said Ingrid Alvarez, the Connecticut State director for the Hispanic Federation, last year.
In 2011, a bill passed allowing undocumented immigrants to pay in-state tuition prices. Alvarez said this is a logical next step.
