WATERBURY — A Waterbury man charged with killing his live-in girlfriend over the weekend faced a judge on Monday.

Camal Barnes, who is charged with murder, was ordered to continue to be held on a $3 million bond for killing the mother of his child over the weekend.

Police say the 32-year-old Barnes shot 22-year-old Ebony SwabyEbony Swaby at about 8:40 a.m. Saturday inside the apartment they shared. Their 2-month-old daughter was in the home at the time.

Swaby was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.

Investigators say the shooting began as some sort of argument.

Neighbors say they seemed like a normal couple and were seen hugging on Friday night.

It’s unclear if Barnes has an attorney.
