WASHINGTON — The National Champion University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball team took a moment to present President Barack Obama with a UConn rocking chair during their visit Wednesday in a private ceremony.
The team, making their latest visit to the White House and the last under President Obama, presented the chair with the inscription, “President Barack Obama 8 Years in Office 2009-2017, 6 UConn Women’s Basketball National Championships 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2016”
UConn Coach Geno Auriemma told Obama, “Where ever you’re going to sit in this, you’ll know that we’ll always have your back.”
Obama praised the team for being great role models, raising the level of play in women’s sports and helping both girls and boys see women as great and confident athletes.
