SHELTON — Two people have died in a wrong way crash on Route 8 Southbound.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. Thursday near Exit 13. The accident involved two vehicles.

State police said a Chrysler Town & Country minivan driven by Kelly Wootten, 29 of Seymour, was driving northbound in the southbound lane  when she struck a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Fernando Moreno-Rivas, 30 of Stratford.  Both drivers sustained severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The highway was closed from Exit 15 South and traffic was backed up into Derby for several hours but has since reopened.
