HARTFORD - The National Alliance on Mental Alliance held a 5k walk in Bushnell Park on Saturday morning.

NAMI Connecticut is Connecticut's largest grassroots mental health organization and the NAMI Connecticut Walk - Stepping Toward Hope and Wellness - is the organization's largest annual fundraiser and main source of funds needed to provide all programs free of charge to the public.

The organization helps to raise awareness of mental illness and support families who are impacted by it.

The president of NAMI Connecticut said she became involved when her son was diagnosed with schizophrenia and has since watched the organization grow.
