BARKHAMSTED – Police said they are on the lookout for the driver of a pickup truck after a hit-and-run crash Friday night.

On Friday just after 9 p.m.. state police went to New Hartford Road in Barkhamsted for a reports of a crash caused by a vehicle attempting to make a left turn on Route 44.

Police said they found Zachary Dube, 23, of New Hartford, seriously injured and lying on the ground in front of the Log House Restaurant. He was driving a black 50cc dirt bike.

Dube was taken first to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and then to Hartford Hospital by Life Star. He was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital at around 7:50 p.m.

The driver of the second vehicle involved in the crash left the scene prior to police and EMS arrival. Police said that vehicle was possibly a 2012-2015 magnetic, or dark, gray Toyota Tacoma with front end, front bumper and/or passenger side damage and fog light bezel.

That driver headed westbound on Route 44 towards the town of Winsted. The pickup truck was seen by two witnesses speeding from the scene, and turning onto Route 318 in the town of Barkhamsted.
