NORTH STONINGTON — A New London man drowned after his boat capsized in the Lake of Isles Sunday morning.

The 50-year-old victim, accompanied by his adult son, was fishing on the lake around 7:30 a.m. when their 14-foot canoe suddenly overturned and threw him into the water.

The man’s son was able to swim back to shore without sustaining any significant injuries.

Department of Energy and Environmental Protection rescue teams were alerted to the incident immediately after State Police began receiving 9-1-1 calls for an emergency water rescue.

Despite efforts to locate him alive, crews recovered the victim’s body around 8:45 a.m. He was pronounced deceased shortly afterward.

The victim’s identity has been withheld, and will not be released until other immediate family members are notified.

State Environmental Conservation Police are investigating the incident, with assistance from the Connecticut State Police.
