WALLINGFORD --  Girl Scout Troop #60208 teamed up with the First Congregational Church's outreach program Holy Joe's Cafe Sunday to ship coffee to service men and women on three different continents.

Founder of the program, Thomas Jastermsky, started it ten years ago after one of the members was deployed. For the last ten years, Green Mountain Coffee has donated the k-cups for the program.

This year, the Girl Scouts decided to help out. The Troop raised money to pay shipping costs and spent their Sunday packing about 75,000 k-cups. They also donated cookies to ship along as well.

"Well, coffee is a big thing for the military," said Jastermsky. "It’s a great thing for those who are deployed. Many of the troops are in hospitals serving 14-16 hours day."

The coffee will be shipped out to troops in Africa, Europe and the Middle East.
