New Haven hit and run

NEW HAVEN — Police are continuing their search for a driver who hit and killed a young mother last week.

Keyonia C. Jenkins, 29, of New Haven, died after being hit by a van on late Thursday. Jenkins left behind an eight-year-old  son. Her family has asked for the suspect to turn themselves in.

Police did not have a description of the driver who had fled the scene after dragging Jenkins about 90 feet. The street was very dark and they have no information on the color of the vehicle.

The van was  damaged in the crash and police are using parts left at the scene in the investigation. Police believe there is no way the driver was unaware of the accident due to the amount of damage based on evidence at the scene. Police believe the van that hit Jenkins was made around 2002.

The driver will be charged with  multiple felonies including vehicular homicide and leaving  the scene of an accident according to police.

Police are unsure of how many people were in the car because the van had tinted windows.
