BARKHAMSTED – Police are on the lookout for the driver of a pickup truck after a hit-and-run crash Friday night, but the vehicle involved has been found.

On Friday just after 9 p.m. state police were called to New Hartford Road in Barkhamsted. The truck, attempting to make a left turn on Route 44, hit a man on a dirt bike.

Zachary Dube, 23, of New Hartford was riding the dirt bike when he was struck. Police said they found him seriously injured and lying on the ground in front of the Log House Restaurant.

Dube was taken first to Charlotte Hungerford Hospital and then to Hartford Hospital by Life Star. He was pronounced dead at Hartford Hospital around 7:50 p.m. Saturday.

The driver of the truck left the scene before emergency responders arrive. Based on witness information, police began searching for a 2012-2015 magnetic, or dark, gray Toyota Tacoma with front end, front bumper and/or passenger side damage and fog light.

On Sunday, May 22 troopers found the vehicle but they are still searching for the driver involved.

Police are  asking anyone who has information regarding the crash to contact them at 860-626-1840 or to text TIP711 with the info to 236748. Police said all calls will be kept confidential.
