Man killed after his car slams into tree in Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY — A man was killed Tuesday morning in Middlebury when his car slammed into a tree.

Police were called around 9:15 a.m. for the crash at the intersection of South Street and Long Meadow Road. Police removed the unresponsive driver from the car. A sedan struck a tree around a curve on the right side of the road.

Officers started CPR immediately before emergency responders arrived and took over medical care, Middlebury Fire Chief Tony Bruno said.

The driver was transported to Waterbury hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not identified the victim of the crash.

The road was closed while police investigated.
