TERRYVILLE--A group of volunteers dedicated their day to serving some of our nation's heroes.

Two veterans who were in desperate need of home repairs got some help from House of Heroes, Stanley Tools, as well as other volunteers, to renovate and repair their homes.

The veterans were Abel Perez, a Bristol resident who served in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and earned a Bronze Star; and Dean Thomas, a Terryville resident and Army veteran who served in Korea and Germany from 1976 to 1985.

House of Heroes is a nationwide service that provides no-cost home repairs to military and public safety veterans who are disabled, living on a fixed income or facing other hardships.

FOX 61 photojournalist Jesse Burkett-Hall spoke to the volunteers about their dedication to honoring our veterans, especially as we approach Memorial Day.
