"It's a special space for veterans that need that a place for peace and camaraderie," Lambert said.
The farm was forced into foreclosure five years ago and, now, Lambert said, it might have to close for good. She said she needs around $300,000 to keep Huntington-Fields up and running.
"It's been an uphill battle with a foreclosure lingering," she said.
Lambert calls the program "Project Respite" and on the farm veterans can fish, tend to the horses, garden, and walk the trails.
"It's just an awesome place," said Melodie Mathews, who served in both the Rhode Island Army National Guard and the U.S. Navy.
"Being in the service, you are accustomed to a high stress level, high alert lifestyle, but this, (the farm) takes your mind off a lot of things," said Alex Dolly, a retired Marine Corporal who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and lives in Norwich. "It gives veterans a chance to forget the bad stuff."
Lambert has set up a gofundme page to try to keep the farm afloat. To find out more click here.
